… turn off the “Fan always on on AC power” option in your BIOS. That will solve the issue where the installer hangs on startup with the following error:

soft lockup cpu#0 stuck for 61s

It will save you hours of frustration after you waste your time trying to track down patches on various PCI scanning bugs fixed in older kernels.
