Website feedback sent to adobe:
I KNOW MY CAPS LOCK IS ON AND ITS INTENTIONAL SO I CAN MAKE MYSELF CLEAR. ADOBE READER UPDATER WASTES A TON OF MY TIME. FIX IT. WHEN IT FINALLY FINISHES UPDATING, IT TELLS ME TO GO TO THE WEBSITE TO UPDATE MY VERSION OF ADOBE READER TO 8.1. THIS IS _AWFUL_ AND YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES THAT THIS HAS GONE ON FOR THIS LONG FOR SOME MANY VERSIONS OF THIS OBVIOUSLY BROKEN PRODUCT. FOR CHRISSAKES TAKE A BREAK FROM YOUR CONSTANT POINT RELEASE FEATURE CREEP AND FIX YOUR UPDATER AND MAKE IT LESS ANNOYING AND LESS TIME CONSUMING. WHILE TYPING THIS, YOUR UPDATER JUST POPPED UP AGAIN. AWFUL, JUST PLAIN AWFUL.
The only time I’ve ever sent anything in all caps that wasn’t sarcastic.
I’m still waiting for Adobe to f-up Photoshop like they have Reader. Every time there’s an update I cringe. Thankfully, almost every computer in the office wasn’t able to accept the Adobe license agreement. This hasn’t stopped the Adobe Updater from trying to cajole people into installing it and then restart their computer only to find that they can’t accept the EULA.
Here’s the solution (only available after multiple calls to support, not on the website):
Go to the Registry Editor:
Under - HKey_Local_Machine – Software – Adobe - 8.0 - AdobeViewer (spelling A & V caps and no spaces)
If AdobeViewer isn’t there:
- In the left column - right click on the 8.0 folder and select - New > Key
- Name the Folder - AdobeViewer (spelling A & V caps and no spaces)
Click on AdobeViewer folder in the left column to open it: Add a New DWORD in the right column
- DWORD is created by right clicking in the background of the right column while on the 8.0 folder in the left column and selecting NEW and DWORD
- Name the 1st DWORD = EULA (spelled this way)
- Edit the DWORD by right clicking on EULA folder, selecting Modify and setting the Hexidecimal value to 00000001 (seven zeros then 1)
Create or Modify the next DWORD: create same as above
- Name the 2nd DWORD – Launched (spelled this way)
- Edit the DWORD by right clicking on Launched, selecting Modify and setting the Hexidecimal value to 00000001 (seven zeros then 1)
Create or Modify the next DWORD: create same as above:
- Name the 3rd DWORD – Registered (spelled this way)
- Edit the DWORD by right clicking on Registered, selecting Modify and setting the Hexidecimal value to 00000002 (seven zeros then 2)
